Ben Tankard is a talented American gospel smooth jazz musician, producer, and arranger known for his self-taught artistry. His musical journey began in church, where he played the drums, and later expanded to the tuba during high school. Although he was drafted into the NBA, a knee injury before the season started redirected his path towards music. Inspired by a church revival, he picked up the keyboard and released his debut album, “Keynote Speaker,” in 1990.

Tankard’s impressive career includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Gerald Albright, Twinkle Clark, Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, Shirley Murdock, Kelly Price, and Take 6. He also discovered Yolanda Adams, a third-grade teacher, and signed her to his independent label, Tribute, producing five of her albums, including the acclaimed “Through the Storm.” His contributions to the genre have been recognized with a Stellar Award for Best Instrumental, solidifying his legacy in the music industry.
